Raakgelees: oor vroue se lot

with 3 comments

In rural Ireland, not long ago, women who no longer menstruated would retire to their beds and stay there, often for years, until they died (U.S. Office of Technology Assessment, 1992). This traditional custom may seem extreme, but the attitude it expressed – that a woman’s usefulness ends with her ability to reproduce – was typical in western societies until fairly recently.

  1. Ek is bly ek is nie Iers of ‘n koei nie.
